We are committed to making a difference and believe that we have a role & responsibility to play, albeit small, in promoting sustainability and sustainable development. This means that all of our activities should be conducted in a manner which protects and enhances the environment, conserves and restores natural resources, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports our communities and society as a whole.
We are members of Design Declares, a group of design agencies committed to harnessing the tools of our industry to reimagine, rebuild and heal our world. This means introducing principles of sustainability, circularity and regenerative design into our practice and acting systematically to influence climate repair. It also means holding ourselves accountable for the environmental impact of our designs.
We still love designing for print but have reduced our print output by encouraging our designers and clients to circulate soft copy proofs during the design process. We also encourage our clients to opt for eco-friendly paper and inks.
We incorporate design thinking in our approach to website design and encourage our clients to reduce the environmental impact of their websites by opting for sustainable design choices. We assess the environmental impact of every website by auditing content, optimising media and using online tools such as https://www.websitecarbon.com/. We also encourage all our clients to buy a green hosting package from our preferred supplier which uses electricity from 100% renewable sources.
We recommend conserving all resources where possible – using a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle approach, in that order!
We have worked with our landlord to improve the energy efficiency of our office, installing led lighting and new programmable heaters. All office computers are set to sleep when not in use and shutdown every evening.
We have reduced our carbon footprint by switching electricity providers to avail of a 100% renewable energy plan. We weigh and measure our weekly waste consumption and have introduced composting for food waste which has significantly reduced the amount of refuse created.
We have reduced our use of paper and provide and encourage employees to use recycled paper when needed. We recycle all paper products, ink and toner cartridges.
All of our staff cycle or use public transport to commute to work and those living further than walking / cycling distance from the office can work remotely from home 1-2 days a week.
This blended approach keeps our transport-related carbon emissions to a minimum.
We have a Home Office Environmental Policy in place for employees working from home on a regular basis.
We periodically review our approach to managing data storage, keeping in mind the carbon emissions involved in transferring data items across the internet and storage in the cloud. Currently, we store active data on a local server which is backed up to the cloud.
This Sustainability Policy will be actively communicated and promoted to staff, clients and visitors, and progress and implementation will be reviewed on an annual basis. The policy will be subject to a comprehensive review at least every five years.
We are in the process of applying for B-Corp certification which we hope to achieve in 2025. As part of this process we have taken part in a B-Corp Bootcamp and engaged a sustainability consultant through the LEO’s Green for Micro scheme.
As part of our 1% for the Planet commitments we are partnering with irishcyclingcampaign.ie ↗
