CFA is a partnership between The National College of Art & Design (NCAD), University College Dublin (UCD), and the Institute of Art, Design & Technology, (IADT). Our task was to create a new brand and website that meets stakeholders’ expectations in each of the partner institutions and appeal to a creative professional audience.
CFA’s new teaching model inspired us. We led workshops with representatives from each partner institute to lay a shared foundation for what was a deeply collaborative branding project. Our conversations influenced the entire brand system and the positioning of CFA as an inclusive, empowering partnership. Our idea grew from developing a digital fingerprint that symbolises each learner’s unique journey through education.
The learner journey concept was developed by generating illustrative paths that could be cropped, rotated, and applied to an endless array of outcomes. Motion was incorporated to represent continuous flux and give the brand a sense of energy and dynamism. The concept even guided our choice of typeface which has weaving contours that mirror diverse user journeys.
The website needed to grow and adapt alongside the new academy. At first, it needed to act as an information portal, but later had to morph into a prospectus as courses came online. We always build flexibility into the design and development of our websites, and this one has continued to grow each year since 2021. The most recent addition was a new section to aid onboarding new students, with resources and student handbooks available through the central hub.
We gave CFA a unique brand that stands apart from all other third-level institutions in Ireland and is flexible enough to grow with them far into the creative future.
Since launched CFA has engaged with over 1300 enterprises, 5,000 learners and developed 160 modules. Their social channels have 7,000+ followers, Mailchimp has +3,200 members and website has 30,000 visitors per annum.
